Box Office Assistant, Michigan Theater Foundation

The historic Michigan Theater, located in the heart of downtown Ann Arbor, is a non-profit organization that engages and enriches the community with a broad range of cinema and performing arts events 365 days a year.

The Michigan Theater is owned and operated by the Michigan Theater Foundation, which also owns and operates the State Theater and the Cinetopia Film Festival.

The Michigan Theater Foundation is looking for a dynamic individual to join their team as the Box Office Assistant.

Summary The Box Office Assistant provides support to the Box Office Manager in building films and live events using our Agile and Ticketmaster ticketing software. Primary duties include event set up and data management, working with internal and external event partners, assisting MTF patrons on the phone and via email, and day-of-event box office set-up and settlement.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities:

  • Agile Ticketing-work with Box Office Manager to build weekly film showtimes and rental events, set up promo codes, and generate box office reports, among other duties.
  • Ticketmaster-work with Box Office Manager to build Ticketmaster events from set-up for online sale and promotions to day-of-show box office needs, among other duties.
  • Work with Box Office Manager to ensure that all film and live events, regardless of ticketing platform, are accurately built and displayed on our MTF website and Agile Calendar of Films and Events.
  • Help cover the box office email and phone line and timely respond to customer needs (ticket sales, refunds, accessibility seats, group sales, etc.) and client needs (ticket counts, seat holds, consignment requests, marketing needs, etc.)
  • Provide day of show/event box office support (set up, onsite sales, and settlement) as needed.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Supervisory Responsibility This position has no supervisory responsibility.

Work Environment The work is primarily indoors in an office environment within a theater building and may have some exposure to fumes, odor, dust, etc. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate but is occasionally loud.

Physical Demands While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus. This role requires walking and standing for extended periods of time. This role requires sitting at a desk for extended periods of time. Extended computer use is required. This role also regularly requires reaching, standing, walking, bending, kneeling, stooping, crouching, crawling and climbing stairs.

Travel: Travel is not required.

Required Education and Experience:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills, with an emphasis on attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently, as well as work collaboratively and diplomatically with others.
  • Strong decision-making skills, problem solving skills, customer service skills, technical skills, reliable and responsible, and energetic and driven.

Preferred Education and Experience:

  • Working familiarity with Ticketmaster, Agile, and/or other ticketing software and CRM's is preferred.
  • Data entry experience, and experience in maintenance and troubleshooting software.
  • A passion for community, history, public storytelling, cinema and the arts.

Additional Eligibility Qualifications A valid driver's license and/or access to reliable transportation is required.
