Director, Dexter Senior Center

Reporting to the Board of Trustees, the Director will have overall strategic and operational responsibility for Dexter Senior Center's staff, programs, expansion, and execution of its mission. The Director will develop deep knowledge of the field (serving older adults), core programs, operations, and business plans.


Responsibilities

Leadership & Management:

  • Work with the Board Chair and team to develop monthly agendas and annual strategic working sessions.
  • Collaborate with the Board and staff to create a strategic plan ensuring that the budget, staff, and priorities of the organization are aligned with the mission.
  • Develop, maintain, and support a strong Board of Directors; serve as ex-officio of each committee; seek and build board involvement with strategic direction for both ongoing local operations as well as for the national rollout.
  • Ensure effective systems to track scaling progress, and regularly evaluate program components, so as to measure successes that can be effectively communicated to the board, funders, and other constituents.
  • Lead, coach, develop, and retain Dexter Senior Center's high-performance team
  • Actively engage and energize Dexter Senior Center volunteers, board members, event committees, alumni, partnering organizations, and funders.
  • Ensure ongoing local programmatic excellence, rigorous program evaluation, and consistent quality of finance and administration, fundraising, communications, and systems; recommend timelines and resources needed to achieve the strategic goals.

Fundraising & Communications:

  • Serve as the face of the center and be proactive in promoting its mission, values, and services at public events throughout the area.
  • Raise awareness for the services provided by the center in the community.
  • Formulate and execute comprehensive and consistent marketing, public relations, and development strategies to build awareness and drive support from major donors, foundations, government agencies, and corporations.
  • Deepen and refine all aspects of communications-from web presence to external relations with the goal of creating a stronger brand.
  • Use external presence and relationships to garner new opportunities and build partnerships.

Financial Stewardship

  • Demonstrate the highest level of business acumen, recommend budgets, oversee revenues and expenditures, and work closely with the Board and its committees to ensure the financial well-being of the center.
  • Oversee agency funds - as approved by the Board of Directors -and ensure adequate reporting and outcomes.
  • Oversee a grant resource development plan to include seeking, research, proposal writing, and reporting requirements.
  • Oversee annual financial reports and bi-annual audits
  • Develop diverse funding streams and long-term plans to best support the mission and goals of the organization.
  • Maintain processes for proper record keeping and internal financial controls.

Qualifications

The Director will be thoroughly committed to Dexter Senior Center's mission. All candidates should have proven leadership, coaching, and relationship management experience.

Specific requirements include:

  • Advanced degree, ideally a Master's in Business Administration or Master's in Non-Profit Management is preferred
  • 7-10 years of senior management experience; track record of effectively leading and scaling a performance- and outcomes-based organization and staff; ability to point to specific examples of having developed and operationalized strategies that have taken an organization to the next stage of growth
  • Unwavering commitment to quality programs and data-driven program evaluation
  • Excellence in organizational management with the ability to coach staff, manage, and develop high-performance teams, set and achieve strategic objectives, and manage a budget
  • Past success working with a Board of Directors with the ability to cultivate existing board member relationships
  • Strong marketing, public relations, and fundraising experience with the ability to engage a wide range of stakeholders and cultures
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills; a persuasive and passionate communicator with excellent interpersonal and multidisciplinary project skills
  • Action-oriented, entrepreneurial, adaptable, and innovative approach to business planning
  • Ability to work effectively in collaboration with diverse groups of people
  • Passion, idealism, integrity, positive attitude, mission-driven, and self-directed.
