Elementary/Middle School Instructional Assistant

Honey Creek Community School was founded in 1995 with support from the Washtenaw Intermediate School District (WISD). Honey Creek has grown from a K-2 charter school with 33 students to a fully staffed K-8 charter school with 250 students and a lengthy waiting list of families eager to attend. Honey Creek Community School was founded out of the community and emphasizes and maintains our relationship and connection with the community. The response from the community to Honey Creek is overwhelmingly positive as evidenced by the strong participation of our parents in school activities. Our project based, thematic, integrated curriculum, small class sizes and strong student-teacher relationships illustrate our uniqueness as a charter school. Responsibilities:

Instructional Assistants are expected to work as a team member in developing and implementing educational instruction and care to the school's K-8 students. Instructional Assistants are to support the teacher in running a multi-age, subject-integrated educational curriculum continuously designed and evaluated to meet each child's needs and goals as well as address state benchmarks. In addition to working with the instructional team, Instructional Assistants are to work closely with children's parents and community members in supporting a curriculum which draws on experiences at home, in the school, and in the larger community, and which encourages parents and other community members to participate in the school and share their expertise.

Prerequisites:

  • High School Diploma
  • Demonstrated warmth and compassion to individual children and their families
  • Demonstrated flexibility and good problem-solving skills with co-workers
  • Ability to work as a productive team member
  • Ability to support the implementation of group projects for interactive, integrated, and individualized curriculum areas which address state benchmarks
  • Understanding and commitment to multi-age groupings
  • Ability to support instruction in interactive theme and project-based curriculum
  • Current physical with no restrictions
  • Current negative TB test
