Manager, The Michigan Theater Foundation

The historic Michigan Theater, located in the heart of downtown Ann Arbor, is a non-profit organization that engages and enriches the community with a broad range of cinema and performing arts events 365 days a year.

The Michigan Theater is owned and operated by the Michigan Theater Foundation, which also owns and operates the State Theater, the Cinetopia Film Festival and the Art House Convergence.

The Michigan Theater Foundation is looking for a dynamic individual with a passion for cinema and performing arts to join our team as the Manager of the Michigan Theater.

Summary The Manager provides leadership and direction to the theater and crew operations to ensure that all team members are guest-focused, team-focused, and contributing to enhancing the overall Michigan Theater Foundation guest experience. These efforts include customer service and guest relations, managing and overseeing employees, managing and overseeing the day to day operations, policy and procedure adherence, and other objectives in support of the mission of the Michigan Theater Foundation.

Essential Functions

1. Customer service and guest relations.
2. Management and supervision of Shift Managers and team members.
3. Management and supervision of day to day operations of the theater; ensuring efficiency and profitability standards are being maintained.
4. Responsible for ensuring that the theaters are opened and closed according to policies and procedures.
5. Aide in the management of the human resource function ensuring hiring, training, scheduling, coaching and developing, and discipling employees is in accordance with company policies.
6. Controlling costs, including all direct operating expenses, purchasing and ordering concession and bar stock, and any other supplies needed for daily operations in collaboration with the General Manager.
7. Inventory control, tracking of supplies, and stocking.
8. Monitoring risk management as it pertains to the theatre; employee and guest safety, loss prevention, emergency situations, and the proper handling, reporting, and investigating of accidents.
9. Upholding and administering all Michigan Theater Foundation policies; time and attendance policy, dress code, code of conduct, etc.
10. Enforce safety, sanitary practices, and maintenance to ensure compliance with operational standards, policies, laws and ordinances.
11. Responsible for MTF merchandise to include ordering, sales, monthly inventory and shipping when requested.
12. Other duties as assigned

Supervisory Responsibility This position has supervisory responsibility for the following positions: Shift Managers and Team Members.

Required Education and Experience

• High School Diploma or equivalent with two years' college education in business or two years' management experience.
• Applicants must be able to pass training programs and obtain food handling and alcohol service permits, if applicable.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Demonstrated ability to work independently, as well as work collaboratively and diplomatically with others.
• Strong decision-making skills, leadership and supervision skills, problem solving skills, customer service skills, technical skills, process and project management skills, attention to detail and organization, and energetic and driven.

Preferred Education and Experience

• Experience in managing a movie theater or live event venue, and knowledge of movie projection and sound equipment.
• A passion for community, history, public storytelling, cinema and the arts.
