For over 35 years the Ann Arbor Hands-On Museum and the Leslie Science & Nature Center have been creating moments of discovery that inspire curiosity, exploration and respect for STEAM and the natural world. With more than 250 interactive science and technology exhibits, children of all ages have the opportunity to create and participate in hands-on adventures.

As the Marketing Specialist, you'll integrate across the Ann Arbor Hands-On Museum and Leslie Science & Nature Center to implement comprehensive communication efforts to deepen and grow our mission. This newly created role will be a great fit if you want to make a difference within the community while utilizing your strengths in utilizing market research to best inform marketing strategies to engage current and potential audiences.

How you'll contribute:

  • Manage an ongoing marketing & communications plan, informed by our strategic plan, annual programming and activities, and target audiences
  • Evaluate effectiveness of marketing strategies, research and recommend new opportunities as needed
  • Work in coordination with the development department and service delivery teams to manage our organizational voice, including brand and core messaging
  • Manage the creation and distribution of all communications, print and digital, including but not limited to: e-newsletters, constituent communications, press releases, online calendars, print ads, tv/radio spots, print brochures and website banners/sliders
  • Research and Design digital marketing strategies to grow our core audiences and enforce strategic priorities
  • Collaborate with colleagues to pull together content and design social media messaging
  • Contribute to, and utilize the budget as needed for communications including print advertising, social media, website and communications with stakeholders
  • Create, review and manage website content
  • Maintain and coordinate event calendars, utilizing online systems to compile necessary event information from multiple colleagues
  • Support print needs with basic design for all departments and events utilizing pre-existing templates and the guidance of organization style guides, including logos, signs, fliers, other print materials, and program materials
  • Responsible for all marketing signage (digital, paper, banner)
  • Maintain inventory, and fulfill requests for printed communications materials
  • As needed, assist in on-air marketing through TV or Radio
  • Utilize and update the patron database with marketing information to intentionally target audiences
  • As applicable, provide event/program photography and obtain photo release forms
  • Assist in community marketing efforts, such as billboards, bus signs, outdoor flags, and media advertisements
  • Attend staff meetings and events such as membership, fundraising, and signature events
  • Actively participate in Ann Arbor Hands-On Museum "on duty" staff rotation and answer phones

  • Two to five years of progressively responsible marketing experience preferably in a non-profit setting.
  • Experience working in a multimedia environment with multiple promotional campaigns active at a time; ability to successfully track and advance multiple projects.
  • Experience delivering campaigns across multiple platforms including print, email, social media, and physical spaces.
  • Flexibility and a willingness to learn.
  • Strong written and verbal communications with experience communicating with a broad range of age and interest groups.
  • Excellent writing skills required. Must have full grasp of English grammar and syntax to ensure error-free social media posts, emails, and web copy.
  • Ability to work collegially within a small or large group setting; ability to work independently, as well as with others as a team, to achieve organizational goals.
  • Ability to meet deadlines, handle simultaneous projects, and prioritize projects.
  • Excellent customer service orientation; interact effectively with visitor and donor audiences, external organizations, organization staff, and volunteers.

It's a plus to have experience with the following:

  • Formal training and/or working knowledge in Adobe Suite. Graphic design, photography, and photo-editing.
  • Basic knowledge of SquareSpace website platform.
  • Basic HTML skills.
  • Working knowledge of Constant Contact, MailChimp, or other newsletter platforms.

Salary and Benefits

This is a full-time, exempt position that includes access to a comprehensive benefits package including medical and dental healthcare, paid vacation & sick days, 9 paid holidays, retirement plan, EAP, membership discounts and more! The salary range is $45,000-$55,000, commensurate with experience.

The Marketing Specialist will work Monday-Friday alongside our team in-office at our Ann Arbor Hands-On Museum and Leslie Science & Nature Center locations. Working occasional weekends will be necessary to provide marketing support.
