NEW seeks a dynamic, organized, and customer-focused Organizational Development
Consultant to engage in capacity building, strategic planning, board development, group
facilitation and training with nonprofit and social sector clients. The person in this role will
be committed to approaching their work with a consciousness and intentionality around
the principles of diversity, equity, and inclusion. The OD Consultant will demonstrate a
passion for and ability to deliver exemplary customer service; an interest in engaging with
nonprofit leaders from organizations large and small, and a commitment to the pursuit of
NEW's vision.


The Organizational Development (OD) Consultant reports to the OD Director and is a
member of NEW's OD Team. This position is a full-time, salaried, exempt position.


NEW strives to create a positive work/life balance for our team members. The consultant
can expect to work between 40 - 45 hours a week, with occasional evening and weekend
hours required to meet the needs of our clients. In response to COVID-19, our OD Team is
currently working remotely.


The OD Consultant will support NEW in the following ways:

Capacity Building

  • Conducts discovery conversations; assesses organizational strengths and
    opportunities for improvement; and co-creates action plans with nonprofit clients to
    help them achieve their organizational goals;
  • Designs and implements organizational developmental training and other
    appropriate resources to address identified leadership, teamwork, governance and
    organizational development needs for clients;
  • Participates in program monitoring, evaluation, and periodic reporting to funders on
    progress of capacity building activities.

Strategic Planning

  • Designs and administers strategic planning processes based on nonprofit clients'
    needs for organizational change;
  • Creates and implements tools to gather stakeholder input and other relevant
    information (surveys, focus groups, interviews, and benchmark research);
  • Through facilitation, support, and analysis, helps nonprofits map out viable and
    actionable strategic plans based on the capabilities and needs of the organizations,
    rooted in strong organizational culture.

Board Development Support

  • Trains nonprofit boards in best practices of board governance through public
    workshops and webinars as well as on-site sessions with individual nonprofit
    organizations;
  • Maintains and updates board development curriculum to reflect changes in the field
    of nonprofit board governance.

Additional Responsibilities

  • Responds to prospective client opportunities through discovery conversations,
    proposal development, and follow-up activities;
  • Collaborates with Organization Development team members to develop and assess
    client-focused strategies in line with NEW's overall vision and goals;
  • Pursue professional development and enrichment opportunities to stay current and
    advance knowledge in the areas of board development, evaluation, strategic
    planning, nonprofit operations and policy, and facilitation;
  • Carries out administrative tasks as it relates to time management and revenue
    generation;
  • Provides ongoing support for collaborative partners for NEW; and
  • Hosts or attends special events as needed to support our work.


Qualifications:

The Organizational Development Consultant role is interdisciplinary, customer-facing, and
detail-oriented. An ideal candidate will bring their own skills and vision, including most or
all of the following:

Prior Work and Education

  • Undergraduate or Master's Degree in Business, Nonprofit Management, Social
    Work, Public Policy/Administration, Education, or commensurate experience in the
    nonprofit or social impact sector;
  • At least three years of professional experience is strongly preferred and nonprofit
    volunteer experience (including board-related work) would also be helpful


Technical Competencies

REQUIRED

  • Strong speaking and writing skills
  • Familiarity and comfort with computer software and the Internet

STRONGLY PREFERRED

  • Experience in providing guidance, leadership, and consultation on diversity, equity,
    inclusion, and racial justice to organizations with complex and diverse needs;
  • Knowledge of nonprofit organizational and governance structure;
  • Experience with adult training and/or curriculum development;
  • Group facilitation and dialogue experience;
  • Project management skills.
