Senior Project Manager - Michigan Medicine

The Senior Project Manager position is a member of the Office of the Chief Operating Officer, University of Michigan Medical Group. The primary objective of this role is to enable the vision, mission, and values of Michigan Medicine, as well as help to effectively develop, drive and support organizational and/or initiative change management strategy within the complex, dynamic environment of the health system. This individual will support strategic initiatives, programs and projects ultimately delivering more value. This will include monitoring progress and performance against the project plan, identifying and resolving operational problems, and minimizing delays.

 

DUTIES

  1. High-level administrative coordination and facilitation of the Office of the UMMG Chief Operating Officer.
  2. Prepares and/or analyzes proposals on complex topics, making recommendations, action plans and implementing as appropriate.
  3. Manages projects to enhance entity operations.  Plans, implements, and evaluates specific projects designed to enhance entity effectiveness.  Participates in the design, implementation, and evaluation of defined programs to promote attainment of entity goals.
  4. Identify, assess, document, and resolve project issues, risks, decisions, and dependencies; escalates to appropriate stakeholders when necessary.
  5. Effectively apply logic, principles, and analytics to aid in project decision-making. Assesses complex problems, draws conclusions, and provides value-driven solutions.
  6. Effectively coordinates and facilitates planning and deliverables for projects. Assigns tasks across project teams and stakeholders. Prepares written communications and presentations for a variety of stakeholders, including senior leadership.
  7. Conducts meetings, effectively communicates, and manages change with stakeholders.
  8. Establishes and maintains an excellent working relationship with project teams and stakeholders.
  9. Acts as a liaison between various departments to ensure that all project activities are in support of overall project goals and objectives.
  10. Coaches and mentors project teams and stakeholders.
  11. Ensures adherence to project scope, budget, time, and deliverables.
  12. Ensures alignment of projects to institutional policies, standards, and benchmarks.
  13. Researches and investigates entity issues and problems.  Works with UMMG leadership and other departments in an effort to resolve issues and problems.  Initiates follow-up to all pertinent parties.
  14. Develops and maintains a strong knowledge of the entity's functional areas and linkages to enable independent handling of appropriate matters.
  15. Works regularly with support services functions to ensure operational goals are met.

 

QUALIFICATIONS: Required Qualifications

  1. Bachelor's degree in a healthcare related field (e.g. Administration, Business, Engineering, and/or Health Sciences) or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  2. At least 5 years of healthcare project, clinical, facilities, and/or operations management experience.
  3. Knowledge of theoretical and practical aspects of project management, techniques, and tools.
  4. Demonstrated ability to lead all project management processes from project planning to closeout.
  5. Ability to analyze, compare, and evaluate various courses of action and have the authority to make independent decisions on matters of significance, free of immediate directions, within the scope of their responsibility.
  6. Highly analytical and has the ability to translate and communicate analysis into actionable information for problem-solving and decision-making at all levels within organization.
  7. Demonstrated ability to independently manage change and solve problems in an ambiguous environment.
  8. Demonstrated ability to lead teams and achieve results. Strong team orientation and ability to manage in complex organizations.
  9. Ability to work collaboratively and demonstrate flexibility and commitment to embracing change.
  10. Strong relationship-building skills, including the demonstrated ability to build consensus among diverse stakeholder groups.
  11. Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.
  12. Detail-oriented and able to bring structure to an unstructured environment.
  13. Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Project, PowerPoint, Word, and Visio) and other project management tools to aid in the project delivery and data analysis.

 

Desired Qualifications

  1. Master degree in a healthcare related field (e.g. Administration, Business, Engineering, and/or Health Sciences).
  2. Broad understanding of healthcare trends (e.g. environment, market, payer, provider, regulatory).
